FastHorse’s The Thanksgiving Play—which opens at New York’s Helen Hayes Theater on April 20—aims to tell the Boston bruins 2022 2023 most wins in a single season in history signatures shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this real story behind the beloved American holiday. The play centers on four white people (D’Arcy Carden, Katie Finneran, Scott Foley, and Chris Sullivan) attempting to put on a culturally sensitive Thanksgiving play for an elementary school—exposing how the so-called “peaceful dinner” between the English pilgrims and Native Americans in 1621 was, in fact, anything but. “There’s this idea of happy pilgrims and Indians doing a prayer by the turkey, and I don’t even count that as fact—it’s fiction,” says FastHorse, who is now one of the first Native playwrights to have a production on Broadway.
Photographed by Jingyu LinNaturally, FastHorse’s play satirizes the Boston bruins 2022 2023 most wins in a single season in history signatures shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this idea of white “allies” to Indigenous people trying to stage a woke Thanksgiving play; the four characters’ fictional production quickly, and comically, goes off the rails as they brainstorm an assortment of deranged ideas, such as acting out the brutal Pequot Massacre of 1637. There’s even a scene where the four stars kick a handful of severed, bloodied Native heads around like soccer balls, an unsubtle nod to the violence Indigenous people faced during colonization. “I love that there’s a lot of nervous laughter,” says FastHorse. “We shouldn’t fear the truth. When I talk to Indigenous folks, they’re like, ‘Thank you.’ There’s a relief and release in seeing [Thanksgiving] the way it actually happened, and not trying to make it softer or censor it.”
