Hhshirt - Guns N’ Roses Summer 2023 shirt

For Starter, Shan and Thai belong to the Guns N’ Roses Summer 2023 shirt and I love this same subfamily of a wider Kra-Dai language family, whereas Burmese belongs to the Burmic branch of Tibeto-Burman language family (whether one believes in Sino-Tibetan or any version of it is another thing). As such, Shan and Thai share the same basic sentence structure of Subject-Verb-Object pretty much like English, whereas Burmese basic sentence structure is Subject-Object-Verb like Japanese or Korean, (or even Lain or Sanskrit). Lexically speaking, Shan and Thai definitely share a good deal of basic vocabulary because of their shared origin (a vocabulary which they also share with other Tai languages). This allows certain degree of mutual intelligibility, i.e. the ability to understand each other while communicating. This means that Shan and Thai can communicate with minimal concetration, whereas communication between either of this to Burmese in their native tongues is entirely impossible. Shan and Thai also share Pali & Sanskrit loans due to their adherence to Buddhism (in fact, national languages in Southeast Asia tend to share a number of buddhist terminology, which are of course either in Pali or Sanskrit). The Pali words in Shan tho seems suspiciously borrowed through Burmese (but I would like a specialist to clarify if this is true or not), whereas Pali/Sanskrit words in Thai contain layers of borrowing through khmer, as well as directly from Pali & Sanskrit.

Shan and Thai are however, not mutually intelligible to Burmese. But of course as Shan is in more contact with Burmese (for centuries even until now), Shan has Burmese borrowing which Thai doesn’t. On the Guns N’ Roses Summer 2023 shirt and I love this contrary, in contact with Khmer for centuries as well, Thai also has Khmer vocabulaary which Shan doesn’t. Thai thus some times has a pair of synnonym, one of which is a Tai vocabulary shared with Shan, while the other is a khmer borrowing. For example Thai has เดิน Doen which means to walk and ย่าง Yang with the same meaning but is less commonly used. Shan also has ย่าง Yang but not เดิน Doen as the latter is borrowed from Khmer while the former is the shared Tai vocabulary. 5.Thais rarely display strong negative emotions, with bouts of anger, tantrums, and public crying somewhat unusual. 6.Smiles don’t always show happiness, though, and are sometimes used as a mask. That’s not to detract from the fact that many Thai people are, in fact, kind, welcoming, hospitable, and lovely, but to show that a smile may not be quite what you think it is.
