Hhshirt - Saying no letting go and protecting my peace shirt

This is a new one. During the Saying no letting go and protecting my peace shirt but in fact I love this seventies and eighties the struggle was to be allowed to wear traditional dress like Dashikis instead of a western style suit. People should wear what they like and is appropriate for the climate and weather conditions. Aside from certain ceremonial occassions like funerals, weddings and Bar Mitzvahs, pretty much anything goes today. Cultural appropriation is just another form of racism in my opinion. Stay on your side of the fence; yours is yours and mine is mine, says someone wearing jeans and eating pizza while listening to hip-hop. I think so. Cultural appropriation isn’t really something I’ve ever been upset about or focussed on as heavily in the news in the UK. The outrage in the US is way above global levels for this kind of thing. But then we don’t have the same history. Yes, it happens here too. But if it’s benign and thoughtful then it’s not cultural appropriation. It’s a celebration.

I’ve spoken at length regarding my hair styles during my goth and metal phases as a youth where they were directly taken from the Saying no letting go and protecting my peace shirt but in fact I love this metal sub-culture of American and Scandinavian bands which were in turn taken from American hip-hop and Norse mythology, respectively. Amongst a myriad of others. When I did it, there was no disrespect involved in any way because style evolves and adapts throughout history. I wanted to look like my metal heroes. Not imitate black American culture whose modern day connection with Africa is tenuous at best. Reality is, Europeans, Middle Eastern peoples, North Africans, Asians don’t care at all about cultural appropriation because their cultures have always had braids and dreadlocks.
