He won 3 straight MVPs and was the biggest threat to Magic, Kareem, and the Showtime Lakers. Overall, he would be near the top of the league. Maybe his overall scoring and FG% would go down and he wouldn’t have the size advantage at his position like in his era. But he would still be the best leader and clutch performer in the league. No I am not. The NBA has always had great players with great stats. Can you believe a player like Clyde Drexler is overlooked as one of the best players because of Jordan? He played SG just like Jordan and often gave Jordan buckets. Jordan had the better team and was clearly better but Drexler could dominate. Bird played against Jordan, Magic, Kareem, Isiah, Moses Malone, Dr. J etc. When you list out all of these players it’s not hard to see why he didn’t lead the league in any of the stats. Plus you have to remember that Bird almost always had a great team around him and had to create for his team as well as score. He was a stereotypical small forward. He did a little bit of everything. He also had to share touches with other Hall of Famers. To me its not surprising.
Well he did win the St. Louis Cardinals 2023 spring training vintage shirt in contrast I will get this 3 point shoot out twice..and in 6 years he won the mvp 3 times..here’s something to think about..the other 3 times he didn’t win he came in second.Course I’m a little prejudice,Larry Legend is my all time favorite player. He just had that will to win..and it did it however the team needed him too. The only statistical category that Bird had any chance whatsoever in leading the N.B.A. would have been scoring. One year, Bird scored more than 30 points per game, but he was beaten out by somebody, I forget who, although it might have been Bernard King. Of course, Bird was an elite free throw shooter who had an amazing touch on outside shots. He was also an elite passer, but not quite good enough for the assist title.
