Also Russell was alot smaller.. When Wilt was with West on the Lakers, they made the Finals 4 out of 5 seasons. The year they won, it was an all-time great, dominant team that set the season win record, with a stunning 33 game win streak that remains the most in all of professional sports to this day, 50+ years later. The LeBron/AD Lakers got one title in the bubble Finals (which some discount for that reason), and got taken to 6 games by a Heat team that was down two starters (which others discount for that reason). Of the two pairs, LeBron and AD are playing more in their primes (even as old as LeBron is), but even of Wilt and West were more on the downside of their careers, they were clearly more successful. Unless some argument can be made about supporting casts (but only Gail Goodrich stands out on the earlier squads), then apparently the Wilt/West duo was better. Unless AD’s injuries are the reason, but then, that is how he contributed or didn’t to the later duo in question.
If I had to pick two weaknesses in Wilt’s game, it would be his lack of shooting and selfishness (in his younger years). Curry compliments Wilt perfectly. You can’t just have one guy on Wilt, but if you double, Curry drills down an open three (basically a layup for Steph). What about if these two run a pick n roll? We all know you have to blitz (trap) Curry so he doesn’t get an open jumper. The Celtics refused to do this in the 2022 NBA Finals and they paid their prize. However, if you trap Curry, he can just throw it ahead to Wilt for an easy dunk. A nightmare for defenses; flatout unstoppable duo if you ask me.
