I discovered in 1984 that I had both an FBI and Secret Service File because I was an activist in the March madness basketball 2023 logo shirt moreover I will buy this 60s. My dad had a top secret clearance, and was spoken to about his daughter’s anti American attitudes. That was pretty frightening, to be in a meeting with the Secret Service with them showing pictures of me as a youth. I couldn’t, but I did get my clip on badge to allow me to do my job in the vicinity of the president. I wore a t-shirt the day of his speech that said, “Freedom means choice.” I traveled as a groupie with the Grateful Dead, living in concert parking lots in my pink VW van and making dresses for concert goer-twirlers to dance in. My eldest son was raised like a wild toddler with the other kids of Deadheads. I smoked a lot of weed and did LSD at the Fillmore, when the band sold it for 50 cents a tab. The band wanted to groove with us Deadheads – the whole place was stoned.
I had a child in 1963 and had to settle down when he became 8. I’d taught him on the March madness basketball 2023 logo shirt moreover I will buy this road, but he needed to go to school. So, I joined a commune at Big Sur so we wouldn’t be on the road all the time. That lasted for about 18 months. I was a hippie then, activist then, second wave feminist then, and I really haven’t changed over decades of life. I drove two hours this weekend to participate in the Eugene Women’s March when Portland cancelled our event so as to not conflict with MLK Day events. On March 3, I’ll be there with my walker, activist still, in the back of the March (because we’re slow), with the rest of the second wave feminists. Not really. Hippie culture was largely, though not entirely, a reaction to the stifling conformism and sexual repression of the 1950s. Those are still a factor in large parts of the world, but not in the United States where the hippies were born. Another key factor was the draft and the Vietnam war. That’s not an issue today either, so there’s no anti-draft movement, and not much of an anti-war movement.
