The whole point here is to celebrate native Mexican culture. Only the University of Texas at austin madness victory road shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this most willfully obtuse SJW could have an issue with that. (And yes, in this context I mean “SJW” as an insult). If something is an insulting parody of another culture, I see a problem. If something inadvertently crosses a cultural line, there’s a problem. A good example is the Halloween costume of Maui that Disney marketed before being forcefully told it was inappropriate. Fortunately they acted quickly enough to keep the fallout from affecting the film Moana, which is a truly beautiful film. (Somebody did their homework well enough that I haven’t heard a peep of protest about Coco. Our Mexican friends love it). But if something is meant as a salute to another culture, or merely being used because someone finds it appealing, and nobody from the other culture is offended, only an idiot would have a problem. It’s not common for white people to have braids and because of this, I may look twice or thrice at any white person with braided hair. It just raises curiosity you know, just like seeing a black person wearing a traditional Japanese dress.
How do I feel about it? I think it’s beautiful, seeing people stepping out of their norm and trying different styles. Actually, I have been seeing a lot of European dancers who mostly dance to Afrobeats, wear African themed clothes, visiting West Africa to make dance videos and so on. I like all of these as they justify the University of Texas at austin madness victory road shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this beauty of inclusivity and love for other peoples lifestyle. A lot of Africans have embraced a lot of Western values and I see no problem if any Western person love or like anything considered African or black. Unless it’s done in a demeaning way like blackface some people make the mistake of painting the people who truly want to embrace another lifestyle in a negative way. It’s understandable though, based on Historical factors, some people would feel that anything African was disregarded as ‘useless or uncivilized’ and right now people want to embrace them. I find the concept of banning cultural appropriation idiotic at best an harmful at worst. We are all humans and share the planet together. We should all learn from each other. If we are going to the South pole we should learn from the eskimoes (Amundsen did. He used anoraks and dog sleds. He succeeded and all of his men came back alive. Scott did not. He used clothes from the best tailors on Sawile Road and horse sleds. He and his men died)
