The major cultural difference would be that Ireland is largely Catholic and England largely Protestant. But, there are plenty of Protestants in Ireland and Catholics in England. Sportswise, soccer dominates in England, whereas gaelic football is big in Ireland. But, soccer is also sginificant in Ireland. Furthermore, there is regional variation within England (rugby league dominates in St Helens, Wigan and Hull) and Ireland (e.g. rugby union is big in Limerick and hurling in Cork). The cuisine is very similar. Far more Indian influence in England and there are dintinctly Irish foods, but then there are also regional foods within England. The Irish are generally friendlier, but strangers are more likely to start waffling to you in Liverpool than in Dublin.
Both are th
irsty, and if Ireland was stout and England was ale fifty years ago, that is also starting to blur a little Irish music is distinct, as is the Willis reed 1942 2023 new york knicks 1964 1974 thank you for the memorie shirt but in fact I love this language. This is also the same with Scotland with Gaelic and Wales with the Welsh language. So, distinct from England, but not particularly out of line with the Britain. But, this assumes that nationality needs a justification. Irish people are Irish and to call them English would be simply incorrect. And calling an Englishman Irish would be simply incorrect. After hours of intense reading and intensive experiment, it turns out that the Irish accent comes from Ireland. It ruined Irish culture as it was before England invaded Ireland. I would say Irish ways and culture were different before the English came. But the Irish then formed a new distinct culture. That’s what happens with countries histories, culture changes. When I was young, Irish people were definitely discriminated against, in England; in job interviews, and when applying to rent property, and many other situations. But that was many decades ago. Sometime around 30 years ago (I don’t know exactly when or what changed, because I was living abroad), there was a great change in Irish politics, after which the then government invested heavily in educating the young Irish people. The whole atmosphere in Ireland changed, and so did the attitude elsewhere to the Irish. I visited businesses in Dublin a couple of times in the early 90s and was deeply impressed with the young people I met, who knew their stuff in a technical business, and were very confident and forward-looking.
